OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. — On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the Western States Endurance Run (WSER) community gathered in Olympic Valley for the official Shakeout Run, a 4-mile event designed to prepare participants for the grueling 100.2-mile ultramarathon set to commence on Saturday. Presented by HOKA, the session offered runners an opportunity to acclimate, connect, and engage with the trail running community ahead of the world’s oldest 100-mile trail race.

The Shakeout Run began at 7:30 a.m. from the HOKA Outpost at Coffeebar, located at 1750 Village East Road. Participants followed an out-and-back route along a nearby bike path, allowing for a relaxed pace suitable for runners of all levels. The event emphasized inclusivity, with a no-drop policy and a designated sweeper ensuring that no participant was left behind.

In addition to the run, attendees had the chance to demo gear from HOKA, Ultimate Direction, and GU Energy. Post-run festivities included complimentary drinks and treats courtesy of GU and Ultimate Direction, as well as giveaways and the opportunity to receive a 30% discount code on select products. The event fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among runners, volunteers, and sponsors alike.

The Shakeout Run is part of a series of events leading up to the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run, which begins in Olympic Valley and concludes in Auburn, California. The race traverses challenging terrain, including the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and is renowned for its rigorous course and rich history dating back to 1974.

HOKA, a leading performance footwear and apparel brand, has been the presenting sponsor of the WSER since 2019. In 2024, the partnership was extended through 2029, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting the ultrarunning community and promoting trail stewardship. HOKA’s involvement in events like the Shakeout Run underscores its dedication to enhancing the runner experience and fostering inclusivity within the sport.

As runners prepare for the main event, the Shakeout Run serves as both a physical warm-up and a symbolic gathering, reinforcing the sense of unity and mutual support that defines the ultrarunning community. With the 100-mile race on the horizon, participants depart the Shakeout Run not only with loosened muscles but also with strengthened connections and renewed motivation.
