Director and Production Updates

This anticipated installment will be helmed by director Shawn Levy, known for his recent work on the Deadpool & Wolverine release in 2024. According to Collider’s Christina Radish, writer Jonathan Tropper confirmed that the team is diligently “working on it.”

Gosling’s Enthusiasm and Expectations

Ryan Gosling expressed great enthusiasm for the project, stating, “That gig is something I’ve dreamed about my whole life. We’re still working on it. For various reasons, I can’t say anything about it. But we’re working on it.”

Standalone Storyline with New Characters

While an official release date is yet to be set, it has been indicated that this Star Wars film will be a standalone story, coming after the highly anticipated The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shared that the film will introduce “pretty much new characters” set in a timeline that occurs several years after Episode IX. She explained, “Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that’ll take place post 9, maybe five or six years out…And with this, it’s all pretty much new characters. We may bring some of the characters back from the sequel saga, but pretty much new characters…”
