Igloo Cooler Recall Expanded: Urgent Safety Notice for Customers
As the weather warms up, outdoor enthusiasts may want to be aware of a critical safety issue affecting several Igloo cooler models. Originally announced in February, the recall has now affected over 1 million coolers, with a recent extension adding more than 150,000 Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers to the list.
What’s the Issue?
The recall has become necessary due to a design flaw in the tow handle that may pose significant risks. According to Igloo, the handle can pinch users’ fingertips, leading to serious injuries including amputation and crushing hazards. Since the initial recall, reports have indicated that 78 additional individuals have suffered fingertip injuries, which range from cuts to severe fractures.
Details of the Affected Products
The revised recall pertains to the following:
- Approximately 130,000 coolers in the U.S.
- About 20,000 units in Canada.
- Almost 6,000 products in Mexico.
These products were sold from January 2019 to January 2025 at various retailers, including Costco, Target, Academy, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. They typically retail for between $80 and $140.
Identifying Recalled Coolers
If you own a 90-quart Igloo Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler, it’s crucial to check if it is among the recalled items. The recall covers coolers manufactured before January 2024. You can find the manufacturing date imprinted on the bottom of the cooler in a circular pattern. Look for an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture along with the last two digits of the year.
Next Steps for Customers
For those whose coolers are affected, it is essential to stop using them immediately. Igloo will provide a replacement handle at no cost. To obtain your replacement, contact the company directly. More information can be found on the official recall page.
