The 2025 IDEA® World Health & Fitness Convention officially commenced today at the California State Fairgrounds (Sacramento Convention Center, North Hall), drawing thousands of fitness professionals from across the U.S. and more than 80 countries. Running through July 19, the three-day event is a vibrant blend of education, networking, live demos, and wellness innovation—designed to equip attendees with the latest tools to excel in both business and personal wellness.
This marks the first time since its inception in 1982 that IDEA World has been held in Sacramento. Over 14,000 participants—including personal trainers, group fitness instructors, nutritionists, physical therapists, club owners, mind–body practitioners, and sports medicine professionals—will converge in the city’s capital. Backed by IDEA Health & Fitness Association’s global reach, members represent more than 80 countries, contributing to a worldwide exchange of ideas and expertise.
With more than 175 learning sessions led by renowned speakers, the convention offers a comprehensive educational experience across diverse subjects. Attendees have access to workshops focused on personal training, nutrition and behavioral change, group fitness, yoga and Pilates, special populations such as active aging, and business development. Participants can accrue up to 22 Continuing Education Credits (CECs), which are critical for maintaining certifications and advancing careers.
Open and free to the public on July 18–19, the IDEA World Fitness & Nutrition Expo is a major draw for both attendees and locals. Hosted at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center (North Hall), the expo features over 300 exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge fitness equipment, wearable technology, supplements, apparel, business tools, and healthy food products. Guests can engage with live demonstrations, sample new innovations, and take advantage of exclusive show discounts. The expo embodies the practical side of IDEA World—connecting industry insights with tangible solutions.
A major highlight of the opening day was the Golden Gala of Distinction, where leaders in the health and fitness industry were honored in a formal dinner and awards ceremony. Among those recognized was Denise Austin, longtime fitness expert and television personality, who received the prestigious Jack & Elaine LaLanne Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented by 99-year-old fitness icon Elaine LaLanne herself, adding a moment of emotional weight and historical continuity to the evening.
IDEA CEO Amy Thompson emphasized Sacramento’s strategic benefits as a host city, citing its walkable downtown, safe atmosphere, accessible transportation, affordable accommodations, and proximity to cultural attractions. Sacramento offers a mix of hospitality and practicality ideal for hosting a large, diverse, international gathering.
The convention’s timing aligns with broader shifts in the global health and fitness landscape. Beyond traditional workouts, the industry is leaning into holistic wellness that includes mental health, nutritional science, behavioral change, and technology-driven personalization. IDEA World reflects this trend, offering professionals the knowledge and tools needed to deliver more inclusive, evidence-based, and sustainable wellness services.
Economically, the convention provides a substantial boost to Sacramento’s local economy, filling hotels and restaurants while promoting tourism. Globally, the event serves as a rare opportunity for cross-border learning and collaboration. For many attendees, this convention is not only a place to earn credentials but also a chance to rejuvenate their passion, exchange innovative practices, and form lasting professional networks.
Event logistics were designed with efficiency in mind. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. each day, with sessions running through the evening. The public expo runs from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. All educational content is packed into the core three days—streamlining the experience and making it more accessible than past years, which often included extra pre-conference workshops.
As IDEA World wraps up on Saturday, attendees will leave with not only certificates and new insights, but also a renewed sense of purpose. The organization has already hinted at plans to expand future conventions to accommodate growing interest in specialty tracks like mind-body practices and studio operations.
IDEA World 2025 is more than a convention—it’s a convergence of education, community, and innovation. As Sacramento hosts this historic gathering, the ripple effects will extend far beyond California. The ideas shared and relationships formed here will shape the future of fitness and wellness around the world.
