Gwyneth Paltrow Returns to Film in ‘Marty Supreme’ Alongside Timothée Chalamet
Gwyneth Paltrow is stepping back into the spotlight with her first major film role in 15 years. The Academy Award-winning actress will star opposite Timothée Chalamet in the upcoming film Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie. Although she has appeared in several Marvel films and a supporting role in Netflix’s The Politician, Paltrow regards this new project as her first significant acting venture since her role in 2010’s Country Strong.
Film Overview
In Marty Supreme, Chalamet portrays a ping-pong champion, while Paltrow plays his romantic interest. The film reportedly features a number of intimate scenes between the two characters. Paltrow candidly discussed the nature of these scenes in a recent interview with Vanity Fair.
“I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie,” Paltrow stated, reflecting the film’s daring narrative.
When asked about the intimate scenes, Paltrow humorously remarked, “So…you’re in a lot of vulnerable positions with him,” to which she added, “Beyond.”
Intimacy Coordination in Film
During her time away from acting, Paltrow had not been acquainted with the concept of an intimacy coordinator, a role that has emerged in the industry to help choreograph intimate scenes and ensure the comfort of performers. She expressed her surprise at this development:
“There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed,” she explained.
Paltrow recounted a moment when the intimacy coordinator approached her regarding a specific move in a scene, to which she responded with disbelief given her experience.
“I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on,'” Paltrow said.
Ultimately, she chose to forgo the intimacy coordinator’s guidance for the scenes they filmed together.
“We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little back,'” she recalled.
Praise for Timothée Chalamet
Despite the intimate elements of the film, Paltrow expressed admiration for her co-star, Timothée Chalamet. Acknowledging his rising status in the industry, she playfully described him as “a thinking man’s sex symbol.” She commended his professionalism and rapport while on set:
“He’s just a very polite, properly raised… I was going to say kid,” she corrected herself. “He’s a man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner.”
