Haley Joel Osment Apologizes After Arrest for Antisemitic Remarks
Star of *The Sixth Sense*, Haley Joel Osment, has issued a public apology following his recent arrest, expressing profound regret over his language towards law enforcement officials during the incident.
Details of the Arrest
On April 8, at a ski lodge in Mammoth, California, police responded to reports of an “aggravated” patron. Osment’s behavior was described as combative, and he was subsequently arrested for drug possession and disorderly conduct.
During his transport to the police station, video footage surfaced showing Osment using inappropriate and antisemitic language, including slurring at an officer with terms that many find offensive.
Osment’s Response
In an exclusive statement to *The New York Post*, Osment expressed his horror over his conduct, saying, “I’m absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken sooner.” He conveyed his disappointment in himself for letting down the Jewish community.
Osment said, “What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage — I’ve let the Jewish community down, and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”
Circumstances Surrounding the Incident
During the arrest, law enforcement discovered what appeared to be cocaine packaged in a $20 bill. Reports indicate he also resisted getting into the police vehicle, exacerbating the situation. Osment later acknowledged that the emotional toll from recent wildfires in California, which affected his home, had contributed to his state during the incident but emphasized that it did not justify his actions.
He remarked, “The past few months of loss and displacement have broken [me] down to a very low, emotional place,” and concluded his statement with, “From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts.”
Next Steps
Haley Joel Osment is scheduled for arraignment in June as legal proceedings concerning the incident continue.
