Bianca Belair: Embracing Growth and Opportunity in WWE

Current Journey and Perspective

Bianca Belair, a three-time women’s world champion and the first overall selection in the 2024 WWE Draft, has had a unique trajectory in recent months. While she has held the WWE women’s tag team championship twice, her role in the company reflects a significant evolution rather than a mere continuation as a leading figure.

In a recent interview with CBS Sports ahead of the Elimination Chamber, Belair expressed her growth during this period. “I’ve learned that you have to take the ego out of things when it comes to WWE,” she shared. “I learned it’s important that the division needs to evolve. It’s the whole point of this.”

Transition from Singles to Tag Team

While Belair acknowledges her eventual return to the singles competition, she relishes the opportunity to contribute to the tag team division. “It doesn’t always have to be about you for you to be proud of it. And I’m very proud of the work that I’ve done in this tag team division,” she added.

Belair is among six competitors in the women’s Elimination Chamber match, with the winner poised to challenge Rhea Ripley for the women’s world championship at WrestleMania 41—a notable opportunity for her to re-enter the title picture.

Memorable Career Moments

Belair made history early in her career by winning the Royal Rumble in 2021, where she outlasted the competition, including Ripley, to headline WrestleMania 37 with Sasha Banks. This was a groundbreaking moment, as they became the first two Black superstars to headline WrestleMania.

Reflecting on her rapid rise, Belair noted, “I won the Royal Rumble and main evented WrestleMania my very first year. But I was used to being led.” During her initial matches with veterans like Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch, she often absorbed their expertise. However, stepping into the role of champion transformed her responsibilities. “I got a little bit uncomfortable because I was so used to feeling safe,” she remarked, highlighting the pressures of leadership.

The Tag Team Experience

As Belair embraces her tag team role, she is gaining invaluable experience, particularly with her partner, Naomi. This partnership allows her to step back from the intense pressure of being a world champion and focus on enhancing the developing women’s tag team division. Belair has expressed her pride in contributing to this emerging element of WWE.

Looking Ahead

Despite enjoying her current role, Belair remains aware of her potential future in singles competition. Many experts regard her as a strong contender heading into the Elimination Chamber match, and she carries a noteworthy statistic: she is undefeated at WrestleMania.
