Tevin Farmer, the former IBF super-featherweight champion, has recently opened up about a personal health challenge—his lifelong struggle with Tourette’s Syndrome. The 34-year-old boxer felt the need to address the concern surrounding a noticeable “tick” which had led to speculation among fans and the media.

Sharing His Story

In a candid statement shared via Twitter, Farmer disclosed, “I’ve kept this private for a long time but I see the concern and speculation about my tick. I have Tourette’s Syndrome. I’ve dealt with it all my life. No neurological issues, so no need to worry. I’m still out here putting belt to a**! There you go, the rabbit’s out of the hat.”

He further expressed his determination to continue competing, stating, “Just an FYI. I’m not going anywhere. I will be 2X Champion and that will be part of my legacy. I’m a DOG, ain’t [no] quit in me. NOW YOU KNOW.”

Understanding Tourette’s Syndrome

According to the Mayo Clinic, Tourette’s Syndrome is characterized by involuntary movements or sounds, known as tics. Farmer emphasized that his condition does not define him, stating it is a part of his journey and testimony. He expressed gratitude towards his fiancée, family, and supporters in his Instagram post, noting, “With God by my side, I’ve been able to face every battle, even ones I never spoke about.”

This personal revelation followed Farmer’s recent bout against William Zepeda on Saturday, which took place in Cancun, Mexico. Despite facing challenges throughout the match, including what appeared to be a significant left-hand injury, Farmer showcased resilience, successfully landing impactful punches, especially in the sixth round.

The fight ultimately went the distance, concluding with Zepeda winning by majority decision—two judges scored the fight 116–112 and 115–113 in favor of Zepeda, while one judge saw it as a draw at 114–114. This defeat resulted in Farmer’s record dropping to 33 wins, 8 losses, and 1 draw.

Following his loss, Farmer expressed disappointment with the judges’ decision, stating, “Hell of a fight Saturday. Zepeda did not beat me. The judges did. It’s crazy to say, but I’m kind of used to it.” Despite the setback, he remains committed to his goal of regaining championship status.
